Sports massage originated with techniques that are specifically geared towards athletes and individuals who engage in regular physical activity. Your therapist is skilled at assessing you and making a plan to address 'imbalances' between the left and right side of the body. Regular massage techniques that are more focused on relaxation and stress relief are included as they help to warm up muscles and improve blood flow. But sports massage also involves the use of deep tissue techniques, soft tissue release and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF stretches). It focuses on preventing and treating injuries, improving performance, and aiding in recovery.
Of course! Your therapist can treat people with all types of muscle dysfunction and pain. Some clients describe their muscle tightness as 'knots' and can be from inactivity, repetitive strain. desk working or sudden activity when you are not normally accustomed to it. In fact, as both a Massage Therapist and Coach you can get advice on how to improve your posture and strength to reduce risk of injury and manage your symptoms as well and your massage during the one appointment.
The benefits of sports massage therapy include improved performance, reduced risk of injury, faster recovery, better sleep, increased flexibility, improved circulation, and reduced muscle soreness.
Contact your therapist early. In the first few days your injury will be in the bleeding phase and although it is not advised to massage the injured area at this point we can advise on injury management and rehabilitation and provide supportive taping to help you gently mobilise. Additionally non-injured muscle tissue can be massaged.
If you have new onset lower back pain please read the lower back pain information file in the download section of the Form page.
You will need to wear clothes that you are comfortable to be assessed in and which permit the therapist to see muscle definition whilst standing or sitting on the edge of the couch. Loose shorts are ideal and a sports bra or normal bra as required.
Wear something warm over the top to keep your muscles toasty on the way home.
Bring your form if you have not returned it online.

Bring your gift voucher if you have one.
We will offer you a drink but it is wise to drink extra during the rest of the day.
Completing a consent form ahead of your appointment will alert your therapist to any medical concerns as there are some conditions that are outside a sports massage remit and some conditions where sports massage is not advised. If you have a medical condition your therapist may ask you check with your Consultant whether deep tissue massage is advisable.
